What Data We Collect
We collect the following information when you use ROOTAZ: - Your name and email address (via Google or Apple sign in) - Voice recordings you create within the app - Photos and videos you upload - Written memories and text you enter - Family member information you add to your family tree - Usage data such as which features you use and when
Why We Collect Your Data
We use your data to: - Provide the ROOTAZ memory preservation service - Transcribe your voice recordings using AI - Generate AI-powered memory summaries and conversations - Send you memory prompts and notifications (with your permission) - Improve the ROOTAZ service We never sell your data to third parties. We never use your data for advertising.
Where Your Data Is Stored
All data is stored securely within the European Union. We use Supabase (eu-west-1 region) for database and file storage. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: - Access the personal data we hold about you - Request correction of inaccurate data - Request deletion of your data (right to be forgotten) - Export your data in a portable format - Withdraw consent at any time To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@rootaz.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete all your personal data within 30 days. Voice recordings and transcripts are deleted immediately upon your request.
Third Party Services
ROOTAZ uses the following third party services to operate: - Supabase — database and file storage (EU servers) - Anthropic Claude API — AI conversation and memory analysis - OpenAI Whisper — voice transcription - Vercel — application hosting - Google OAuth — sign in (if you use Google login) - Apple OAuth — sign in (if you use Apple login) Each of these services has their own privacy policy and data handling practices.
Cookies
ROOTAZ uses essential cookies only. These are required for the app to function, including keeping you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any third party analytics that tracks you across websites.
Children
ROOTAZ is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at hello@rootaz.com and we will delete the account immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by displaying a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
